Durham-Duplex enjoyed a trip to Kuala Lumpur for the Food Pack Malaysia Show 18-21 July 2019. The event is a mixed bag sitting alongside Malaysia Plas, Malaysia Lighting, Sign and LED and Malaysia Bakery, Coffee and Tea shows but the diversity plays to the Durham-Duplex strengths and the Main Hall is predominantly food orientated with lots of sample and plenty of foot fall. As Richard Kirtley said ” There was a lot of interest in our products through out the show and both the UK and SEA sales team will be busy following up.”
Durham-Duplex will be exhibiting the Personna Range of Dermatological, histology and pathology blades at the British Association of Dermatologists Conference in Liverpool 2 – 4 July. UK Sales Director Paul Bottomley explained “Durham-Duplex has not done much in medical over the years but as Accutec Blades’ exclusive UK distributor this conference is the perfect opportunity for us to show case the Personna range of Dermatology blades to the UK’s experts. The focus on Dermatology and related areas is based on the success of the Dermablade and the development of their Dermaplane blade both of which offer a focussed solution to the professional. This event nicely compliments both Medica and Medical Fair Asia which we will exhibit at in the Autumn and builds on the awareness within the industry of this Made in USA dermatology option.” For more information please contact Paul on [email protected] or call 0114 243 2313 or visit the stand at BAD.
Durham-Duplex are exhibiting at Safety & Health at Excel in London Docklands 18 – 20th June. They are exhibiting their range of safety hand knives and in particular OLFA products. As Alex Smith, DD’s UK South Area manager, said: ” Its always an awful trip to get here but once you are over that it is a good show with plenty of footfall from interested parties that would never schlep up to Birmingham for a show. So, for us, bringing our range of safety knives and the OLFA down to London pays dividend, especially with the OLFA products being such a popular range.”
Durham-Duplex exhibited at Pro Pack Asia for the 11th time between 12th – 15th June 2019. The show attracts visitors and exhibitors from across the ASEAN Region and Durham-Duplex enjoyed a high footfall over the 4 days.
As the International Sales Director Carl Foster said “ProPack is the big show in the region and elicits a lot of interest and high visitor numbers. This works well for us with our wide range of products and depth of knowledge in both the British and Thai staff. BITEC is a great venue for the event with its easy connections to Bangkok and the Airport. We had another great exhibition and will return in 2020.”
Durham-Duplex did not forget the cupcakes, cakes, quiches and brownies as they baked up a storm for Alzhemers on 13th June. Sharon Taylor challenged the company to show their baking skills in support of Alzheimers and the results were not only delicious but also raised £300. Well done all involved.
Durham-Duplex had a very exciting IFFA 2019 and the show was the perfect opportunity to highlight Accutec Blades range of Personna skinner blades as well as DD’s own range of knives for meat processing and packaging. Visitors had the opportunity to discus their requirements with both the Durham-Duplex and Accutec Blades teams on the stand through out the show. As European Sales Manager David Piper says “We find that exhibiting at the big German shows, especially those that only happen every 3 years, pay dividend compared to trying to just walk the show on a visitors pass as we also get to meet many people drawn in by the quality of our products on the stand. The reputation of Personna’s Skinner blades across the industry for high quality skinner blades is well earned and people always like to stop and discuss supply at the booth. We were also delighted to be joined by our American colleagues from Accutec Blades which adds to our ability to work the stand and the show to meet existing and new customers.” As you can see from the photos David had a good time in Frankfurt
Credit where credit is due and DD’s International Sales Development Manager Richard Kirtley ran the Sheffield Half Marathon in under 1 hour 30 mins on 14th April 2019. That is a good performance from him. Richard, in purple (below) at the 2 mile mark, was running with his brother who turned up late for the start and still proceeded to beat Richard! Good effort to both runners.
Durham-Duplex had a successful show at the Health and Safety Event at the NEC 9 -11 April 2019. There has been a lot of change in the industry so delegates were pleased to see that Durham-Duplex remains unchanged with an expanding range of OLFA and DD safety hand knives. As UK Sales Director Paul Bottomley explained “This event is the flagship event for H&S and we enjoy the opportunity to meet existing and new customers from up and down the Country in such a focussed environment. As OLFA’s Industrial Distributor in the UK Martin and Alex have the privilege of showing off their Safety knife range at this event and it always delivers for us.”
Durham- Duplex are looking forward to the International Converting Exhibition (ICE-X) in Munich in March 2019. As EU Sales Manager David Piper said ” This is an important show for Durham-Duplex and a great opportunity to met with the Converting Industry in one place. Durham-Duplex has been making thee converting blades for over a century so this show really tickles our sweet spot and will be an important meeting place to outline how the Company will be “business as usual” post BREXIT.”
Durham-Duplex have exhibited at the EM Pack Easy fair show at the NEC 27-28th February 2019. The event was well attended and as ever there was a lot of interest in the Durham-Duplex range. The picture shows Alex Smith and Martin Flanagan ready for the next enquiries at the show.
Durham-Duplex enjoyed their time exhibiting at Southern Manufacturing in Farnborough 5 – 8th February 2019. Alex Smith , the Area Sales Manager (South) said “I walked the show as a visitor last year and saw how buzzy and vibrant the event was so thought it would be a good idea to exhibit in 2019. It is a wide ranging show but as Durham-Duplex’s products are used in many different industries there has been a nice synergy between our offering and the visitors requirements.”
UK Sales Director Paul Bottomley agreed “This is a different show but it has been a good one, despite all the annoying reps selling R&D tax credits, banking and websites on day one. But after these all left and the manufacturers could get in we had a successful show.”

Durham-Duplex enjoyed another Gulfood Manufacturing event in Dubai increasing the interest in the Company’s products from across the region. Durham-Duplex are delighted that their Walmsley Works facility on Lyons Street is now virtually off grid with a new investment in Solar panels. Operations Manager Oskar Solvason said “DD tries to minimise our impact on the environment and solar power is the latest in a string of measures taken to be as green as possible. This investment and the renewables generated energy used for the factories means that we have successfully reduced our carbon footprint and are looking for new sustainable ideas to keep improving without affecting production quality.” Lets hope the sun keeps shining!
Durham-Duplex had an excellent time in Belgium for EMPACK meeting many new customers in a busy show. David Piper, EU Sales Manager, enjoyed the event massively and commented ” This was a surprisingly good show and the quality of the exhibits were very high which drew in many visitors who all used knives. The colocation with the Logistics show also generated a lot of interest in the safety knives for that industry and meant that the chip shop between halls was operating although the Jury is still out about mayo and frites. The only sadness was that our exhibitors passes did not let us into the SMURF show next door.”
Durham-Duplex were very pleased to receive a Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice certificate showing that the Company had raised over £1,000 from a series of events as part of the Master Cutler’s Challenge in 2018.
Well done to the organisers, donors, supporters and participants for raising this sum and particularly to Philip Nowak for arranging the football matches. The company attended the Ball at the end of the Challenge which was a fitting celebration.
