As EU Sales Manager David Piper said ” This is an important show for Durham-Duplex and a great opportunity to met with the Converting Industry in one place. Durham-Duplex has been making thee converting blades for over a century so this show really tickles our sweet spot and will be an important meeting place to outline how the Company will be “business as usual” post BREXIT.”
Durham-Duplex have exhibited at the EM Pack Easy fair show at the NEC 27-28th February 2019. The event was well attended and as ever there was a lot of interest in the Durham-Duplex range. As UK sales Director Paul Bottomley says “This has been a good show for us over the years as it is a demanding audience who need cutting edge products which is where Durham-Duplex excel.”
The picture shows Alex Smith and Martin Flanagan ready for the next enquiries at the show.
Durham-Duplex enjoyed their time exhibiting at Southern Manufacturing in Farnborough 5 – 8th February 2019. Alex Smith , the Area Sales Manager (South) said “I walked the show as a visitor last year and saw how buzzy and vibrant the event was so thought it would be a good idea to exhibit in 2019. It is a wide ranging show but as Durham-Duplex’s products are used in many different industries there has been a nice synergy between our offering and the visitors requirements.”
UK Sales Director Paul Bottomley agreed “This is a different show but it has been a good one, despite all the annoying reps selling R&D tax credits, banking and websites on day one. But after these all left and the manufacturers could get in we had a successful show.”

Durham-Duplex enjoyed another Gulfood Manufacturing event in Dubai increasing the interest in the Company’s products from across the region. Durham-Duplex are delighted that their Walmsley Works facility on Lyons Street is now virtually off grid with a new investment in Solar panels. Operations Manager Oskar Solvason said “DD tries to minimise our impact on the environment and solar power is the latest in a string of measures taken to be as green as possible. This investment and the renewables generated energy used for the factories means that we have successfully reduced our carbon footprint and are looking for new sustainable ideas to keep improving without affecting production quality.” Lets hope the sun keeps shining!
Durham-Duplex had an excellent time in Belgium for EMPACK meeting many new customers in a busy show. David Piper, EU Sales Manager, enjoyed the event massively and commented ” This was a surprisingly good show and the quality of the exhibits were very high which drew in many visitors who all used knives. The colocation with the Logistics show also generated a lot of interest in the safety knives for that industry and meant that the chip shop between halls was operating although the Jury is still out about mayo and frites. The only sadness was that our exhibitors passes did not let us into the SMURF show next door.”
Durham-Duplex were very pleased to receive a Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice certificate showing that the Company had raised over £1,000 from a series of events as part of the Master Cutler’s Challenge in 2018.
Well done to the organisers, donors, supporters and participants for raising this sum and particularly to Philip Nowak for arranging the football matches. The company attended the Ball at the end of the Challenge which was a fitting celebration.
Once again Durham-Duplex will be exhibiting at the Gulfood Manufacturing exhibition in Dubai 6-8 Nov 2018. This large international exhibition has exhibitors drawn from across the world and region. As Richard Kirtley, MEA Sales Development Manager, says “Dubai brings a large cross section of companies across our stand in 3 days, many of which we could not reach without attending this show. This has helped us build lasting relationships with attendees and other exhibitors all of which has led to increased sales in the region. the common factor is always quality products that meet and exceed specifications to ensure trouble free operations for the customers. Which is exactly what Durham-Duplex offers whether with our own machine knives and industrial blades or with the Personna range of skinner and industrial blades.”
Alex Smith and Martin Flanagan had a successful Health & Safety North exhibition at Event City in Manchester 9 – 10 Oct 2018. Alex said “This event went very well with a lot of people coming to see the full range of products having seen a snap shot at either PPMA or RWM in September. As ever the OLFA range gets a lot of interest but the DD range also proves ever popular particularly our Polyslits, Springers, Roll Cutter and auto retracting handles.”
Looking mighty fine against the purple PPMA carpet Durham-Duplex are exhibiting at the PPMA show in the NEC 25 – 27th September. This annual event brings in PPMA’s food processing and packaging members from across the country to create a well focussed event. Paul Bottomley, the UK sales Director, said” PPMA works for us because we handle all aspects of the industry from processing and packaging through to boxing, unboxing and recycling with our range of machine knives, industrial blades and safety hand knives. The three days here at the NEC is always worthwhile and will set our course for the rest of the year.” If you are unable to attend the event but would like more information or a quote for your cutting requirement please contact Paul and his team on [email protected] or call 0114 243 2313.
Durham-Duplex went North for the Scottish Health and Safety show in Glasgow in September 2018. As ever the OLFA product on show got a lot of interest as did the range of DD safety knives displayed. Paul Bottomley said ” This is always a good show for us as the Scottish buyers understand the need for a reliable safety knife to minimise blade related injuries in factories and retail.”
Durham-Duplex would like to congratulate our Technical Assistant Gabriele Minacapilli for spending a night sleeping outside the Sheffield Cathedral in support of the Cathedral’s Archer Project. In the process he raised £190 for the charity which Gabs thought was a good return from a missed nights sleep. Well done!
Durham-Duplex enjoyed exhibiting at the Malaysia Pack and Foodpro exhibition in Kuala Lumpur 19th – 22nd July 2018. Durham-Duplex were the first UK Company to exhibit at this show and enjoyed showing off UK’s engineering prowess in a new but sophisticated market like Malaysia.
it was also a great opportunity to catch up with old friends as Wey Lim Kek come to see us. Wey Lim used to work for Durham-Duplex in Sheffield before going home to Kuala Lumpur so it was great to catch up between his work and parenting responsibilities.
The show at Putra World Trade Centre was busy and we were very glad to have our friends from NCS to help us with the range of languages routinely used in KL. The free Malay waffles on the opposite stand were also a great pull into our location as the mouth watering smell was hard to resist!
The Malay and Chinese hand outs were also a very good marketing tool and have lead to many follow up emails and calls to both UK and Thailand staff.

Durham-Duplex enjoyed a 7 a side football match against Jewel Blade played to benefit the Master Cutler’s challenge and Bluebell Wood Hospice. MD Charles Turner said ” Durham-Duplex tries to do its bit for the environment and this is another small step in the right direction. taken in addition to our high levels of recycling of paper, cardboard & steel and our electric delivery van we hope to reduce our footprint without compromising performance. Now we are on a roll so I guess the next step will have to be solar power on the factory roof – watch that space!”
