Durham-Duplex will be back in BENELUX for EMPACK at Brabanthallen Den Bosch on 5 & 6 April 2023. EU Sales Manager David Piper will be showing the Company’s wide range of products for the food processing and packaging industry. He commented “I like doing Empack shows they are easy to do and gain good footfall with their market specialisation. The local buyers are also learning that dealing with a manufacturer is better especially when that manufacturer has over 100 years of experience so can deliver what the customer wants rather than what is available. A visit to NEC Birmingham is never wasted and Durham-Duplex proved this once again as they exhibited at Empack and Packaging Innovation (PI) in the NEC 15-16 Feb 2023. The show was a focussed event and part of the family of shows the Company does across Europe with the UK one usually usually being the the best one. UK Sales Director Paul Bottomley explained why “In EMPACK at the NEC we get a knowledgeable footfall seeking to engage with the practicalities of the packaging process and increasing productivity by utilising the best cutting edges. This is an area where Durham-Duplex excels and the mix of attendees works well, often encouraged to attend by the easy mid country location, with them seeking us out or arranging to meet on the stand. In Europe the focus is more around the aesthetic and innovation so a lot of the work is done off stand talking to customers in PI seminars or break out events. Generally the Easy Fairs work well for us and as expected we had another good show at the NEC in 2023.”

DD Team at Empack 2023
K. Kanwipha and the team enjoyed exhibiting at the Food Pack Asia event in BITEC Bangkok on 8-11th Feb 2023. This is a wide ranging show covers all aspects of food processing and packaging in Thailand with associated shows like the Label show and Warehouse and Logistics alongside it. International Sales Director Carl Foster joined the team for the show and said “Whilst it is not the scale of the pan regional Propack this show works well for developing our local customer base and was well attended by our target market. It also had the delightful advantage of having a small food court within the exhibition hall so lunch was tip top with out having to leave the Hall!”

Our OEM Sales Manager Mark Jinkinson recently unveiled a Commemorative bench in his village on the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands conflict. Mark was serving as an young engineer in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Antrim during the Conflict.
“The bench is there for the village to enjoy and hopefully to pause and remember this and other conflicts.”

Durham-Duplex enjoyed exhibiting their range of packaging knives and industrial blades at Empack Ghent in the Flanders Expo, Ghent, 14-15 Sep.
EU Sales Manager David Piper said “Empack works really well for us and Easyfairs are the simplest to do as everything is laid on to maximise our customer facing time. It was our first time in Ghent but the show was good and brought us many opportunities to discuss our packaging knives and safety knives with end users looking for reliability and performance from their cutting edges.”

The start of the challenge
12 members of staff from the Durham Duplex took the challenge of doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in under 12 hours on 04th August 2022.
They did the 3 peaks at over 1.5km elevation and covered the 24 miles between by foot in less than 11 hours with the fastest doing it in 9 hours 30 minutes. As Laura Stainburn, Sales Ledger Administrator and the organiser, said “It seemed like a good idea at the time and as we have got closer the challenge grew in size as we saw the actual peaks. i am really proud of the team as they stormed it and even the old men finished under 11 hours. We all enjoyed it and relished the challenge and looking at the Just giving page we have raised lots of money for Cavendish Cancer Care in the process.”

A welcome pint at the end
Durham Duplex enjoyed their time exhibiting at ProPack Asia 15-18 June 2022. Carl Foster, International Sales Director, joined the Thai sales team headed up by K. Kanwipha for the show in BITEC Bangkok.
“It was back to a normal show for footfall and exhibitors thsi year with planty of customers old and new to talk with. As Thailand has developed its international markets the demands for high quality cutting solutions has grown with it and Durham-Duplex has teh range of products to support the myriad of requirements from seafood to plastics.”

We recently said farewell to Frank Baker who retired after 19 years with Durham-Duplex and with many miles of grinding behind him. The Company is very sad to lose him and his grinding expertise. MD Charles Turner was delighted to mark Frank’s retirement the traditional way with a clock and all at DD wish him a long and happy retirement. However, rest assured that whilst his skills will continue to be needed here he made a point of ensuring that these were passed on and we very grateful that his “tricks of the trade” (aka grinders magic) will continue so that we can still do all the difficult grinding jobs just without his hands on the wheel.

Durham-Duplex enjoyed exhibiting at IFFA 14-19 May 2022 in Hall 9.1. IFFA is the biggest European and international meat processing event attended by the International industry and with exhibitors form the across the world. Durham-Duplex showed their range of chicken and meat processing blades and the Personna skinner blades alongside DD’s full range of packing blades. As MD Charles Turner Said ” Every meat processors is also a meat packager and so our mix of meat and packaging blades fitted nicely at the show. We also included some alternative protein processing products for the first time as the non-meat protein side of the exhibition is growing and all industrial customers like to deal with the Manufacturer especially when delivery is key due to global disruption to the supply chain.”

Durham-Duplex were looking forward to exhibiting at the first Anuga Foodtec since 2018 and teh event did not disappoint. The event ran 26-28th April in Koln Messe and as a whole industry show it covered all aspects of our product range. David Piper, EU Sales Manager, explained:
“Anuga is divided into separate but complementary zones covering meat, fish, packaging, processing, bakery etc and so there is a wide cross section of both our customers and target audience attended the event. The 2018 show was a great success for us with our product range from skinner to our own manufactured machine knives so we went for the same hall same location theory to maximise brand awareness and that really worked as poeple sought us out. We retained our European reach through our Brussels subsidiary and as a manufacturer qualifying under the 0% tariff point of origin rules that was a big discussion point at the event. So to remind customers that if you want to be supplied by a manufacturer across EU and the World then get in touch.”
