Durham– Duplex enjoyed exhibiting at the The International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) show at the Georgia World Congress Centre in Atlanta 25-27 January 2022.
Durham-Duplex were delighted to show their range of processing and packaging knives in the heart of the US Meat and Poultry industry.
Export Director Carl Foster said ” Its took a bit of getting there but the hurdles were worthwhile when we got face to face with our customers old and new in this industry specific event. The footfall at the show might have been better but as a Sheffield Manufacturer we are confident in our quality and ability to supply either in volume direct from UK or from stock held at our US facility in Aurora IL. ”

Durham-Duplex might use Blue and Green as their corporate colours but when it come to supporting charity the Company was in the Pink in support of the Breast Cancer Now The Research and Care Charity. Organiser Sharon Taylor did a great job whipping up not only support but also rounds of pink themed fairy cakes to support the charity raising £200 in house which when added to £247 from the Guardians of the Sheffield Assay Office and then doubled by Durham-Duplex’s MD Charles Turner made a donation of £900 to the charity.
Our thanks go out to all the people that made a donation.
Well done Sharon for organising it all and congratulations to Sam or Mr Strawberry for really getting into the spirit of the day
It looks painful and it probably was but Chris Sugden, our Commercial manager, ran a very commendable 43mins and 40 seconds in the Sheffield 10k on Sunday 26th September. The Durham-Duplex team of 6 runners came a creditable 3rd in the team race and raised £700 for Weston Park Hospital in the process. The team consisted of previous runners from 2019 Chris Sugden, Phil Nowak and Jono Burns with Nathan Benham, Joe Sergent and Laura Stainburn running their first 10k. Well done all of you!
Durham-Duplex had an exciting time exhibiting at the PPMA exhibition at the NEC on 28-30th September 2021. This event was co-located with Interplas, Medtech and TCT3Sixty giving a great industrial showcase to the broad range of the Company’s cutting applications for all industry sectors and particularly the packaging, food processing and plastics side of manufacturing. Being a Sheffield manufacturer we understand the importance of national and local supply chains and so the presence of our area sales managers at the PPMA show meant we were able to meet customers old and new from across the UK and Ireland. As Paul Bottomley, UK sales Director says “PPMA is a great show and we know that it is the customer service and delivery of of high quality parts that marks us out from the rest and keeps customers happy and their machines working smoothly. We enjoyed seeing friends and customers alike on our stand at PPMA as it had been a long 2 years away from the NEC and the buzz of doing a packaging and processing show.” If you missed the show but need some support with your cutting edge requirements, wherever you are based in UK and Ireland, then contact Sales on [email protected] or call +44114 243 2313
Durham-Duplex had a very exciting Health and Safety Expo at the NEC 7-9 September 2021 and as Paul Bottomley, UK Sales Director said: “Before the event it had felt like a life time since we had been face to face with our our customers and potential new customers at an Exhibition. But, like riding a bicycle, it all came flooding back and we thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition and caught up with loads of customers both old and new enjoying the “Health & Safety Event” and the other parallel shows @ the NEC.”
Durham-Duplex have been OLFA’s UK Agents for since 1996 and you can see the full range on line or by contacting [email protected] or calling 01142432313
Just because the World stopped didn’t mean business did and Durham-Duplex exhibited at the Virtual Pro Pack Asia event 9th – 23rd June 2021. Carl Foster, International Sales Director, said ” Virtual is not the same as attending an in person event but it has been a useful experience and had some positive results. It was definitely been worth attending or rather having my Avatar attend! We look forward to doing the physical event in Bangkok, which has been moved to September, if this proceeds as it will be nice to see not only our staff on a stand but visitors. We have missed international travel and exhibitions so hopefully with a successful vaccination programme and a Covid passport we can resume business travel in the Autumn.”
A live exhibition in summer 2021 was probably too much to hope for and as expectde the live Safety and Health exhibition at the Excel scheduled for July 2021 has been moved 2022. However all is not lost as Durham-Duplex were one of the exhibitors at the Safety and Heath Connect virtual exhibition which ran online event 1-30th June. Paul Bottomley, UK Sales Director, agrees that the month long virtual event was a worthwhile exercise:
“Since Empack in Feb 2020 we have been unable to get out and we have all missed the opportunity to meet with and talk to customers face to face rather than just by Zoom and phone. I know that everyone has been in the same boat and whilst I would love to do a live event in July the virtual event was still a very good opportunity to introduce the Company and our products to potential customers. We were on line with our rage of OLFA and DD safety knives and be able to reconnect with both the industry and our customers in the South of England and nationally. As ever we had new OLFA product to show and the reinforced focus on health and safety by companies over the Lockdown means that we had plenty of interest from Industry looking to improve the safety of their cutting operations.”
Durham-Duplex manufactures it’s machine knives in Sheffield and has a particular specialisation in the manufacture of knives and anvils for use in horizontal, or flow wrap, packaging machines. In particular Durham-Duplex focusses on the highly technical zig zag knives which are particularly demanding to manufacture in tolerance which combined with equally highly specified anvils gives excellent cutting result at high speeds and with modern recycled films.

Firstly – Happy New Year. I hope you have been able to enjoy the Christmas holiday and have started 2021 in good health!
As you will know the UK has agreed a trade and cooperation deal with The European Union which details how UK will trade into the Single Market from 1st January 2021
Part of the deal is that there will be no tariffs on Durham-Duplex’s products entering the Single Market, although goods will be subject to normal customs process on entry to the EU Single Market. Durham-Duplex has a wide experience of the import/export procedures in both EU and UK having traded globally for over 100 years but we understand that not every company has such experience operating outside the Single Market so this might be a concern.
Durham Duplex has planned for most BREXIT outcomes since the referendum in 2016 and the agreement falls within our expectations. The Company has prepared carefully and we are looking forward to continuing business across the whole World and especially with our friends and customers in the EU. The new agreement means that whilst trade on UK manufactured products between the UK and the EU will continue to be duty-free the requirement for all imports and exports to be formally declared will increase the amount of Customs paperwork and has VAT implications..
If you would prefer not to deal with Customs paperwork then Durham-Duplex has the option for you to order from Durham Duplex (Europe) SPRL/BVBA, known as DD(EU), which has been operating in Brussels since 2018 handling all our European Accutec Blades business. DD(EU) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Durham Duplex that operates under Belgian Law as a Belgian Company within the Single Market making it particularly attractive to customers operating exclusively in Euro’s within the Single Market.
For those customers used to doing customs clearances then the option to import direct from UK remains available and this will be under 0% tariffs for EU sales on UK manufactured goods.
