Sheffield Collectable Knives: A New Online Home for Sheffield’s Knife Making Heritage

September 18, 2026

A new chapter begins for two of Sheffield’s most historic knife-making names.

Sheffield has been synonymous with quality cutlery and knife making for centuries. Now, that remarkable heritage has a new online home.

We are proud to announce the launch of Sheffield Collectable Knives, a dedicated website bringing together a collection of traditionally made, Sheffield produced knives inspired by some of the most famous names and designs in the city’s history.

The new website gives collectors, enthusiasts and anyone with an appreciation for traditional British craftsmanship the opportunity to explore and purchase a piece of Sheffield’s knife-making story.

Continuing a Sheffield tradition

Sheffield Collectable Knives is home to two of the city’s most renowned names in cutlery: Joseph Rodgers & Sons and George Wostenholm & Son.

Both companies have played an important role in Sheffield’s long and internationally recognised knife-making history.

Joseph Rodgers is famous for its iconic Star and Maltese Cross trademark, while George Wostenholm is forever associated with the celebrated I*XL brand and the Bowie knives of the great American Bowie Knife era.

The new website celebrates that history while showcasing knives that continue the traditions of Sheffield craftsmanship.

From the pocket knives produced by generations of Sheffield’s Little Mesters to the iconic Bowie and Commando designs, Sheffield Collectable Knives brings together a selection of products that have a story behind them.

Made in Sheffield

At the heart of Sheffield Collectable Knives is a simple idea: preserve the craftsmanship, history and character of Sheffield knife making for future generations.

The skills of the Little Mesters who helped establish Sheffield’s reputation around the world are still practised today by the craftsmen of the Rodgers Wostenholm Group, combining traditional skills with modern manufacturing techniques.

That means these aren’t simply knives inspired by history. They represent an ongoing connection with Sheffield’s manufacturing heritage.

The collection includes traditionally made Sheffield pocket knives, including Barlow, Stockman and Gentleman’s knives, alongside George Wostenholm Bowie knives recreated from designs associated with the 1800s and Commando knives based on one of the most recognisable military knife designs of the 20th century.

The website also features a selection of accessories, including handmade leather sheaths and sharpening products, designed to complement and help care for your collection.
